CLASSIFICATION (2) Selectivity
Criterion #2: Selectivity (S).
- Explicit consistency maintenance related activities (e.g., invalidation) can be done on the entire cache memory
(i.e., without any spatial discrimination), or on only a portion of the cache memory (i.e., selectively).
Classes:
- Indiscriminative schemes (i) as in [VEIDE86]
- Selective schemes (s) as in [CHEO88a,CYTRO88,TARTA92]
Comment:
- The schemes referred to as selective are characterized with a wide range of granularity of data which can be
the subject of the consistency maintenance activities.
